"GET ON THE INTERNET" failures  in win 3.1,

After I deleting the icon they had no problems. It is very important to delete this icon when setting up. if it is easier, delete it before you do the iedial.exe, then you dont have to go back and do it, but please get in the habit of deleting it. At some point in the future, the "get on the internet" dialer will become the default dialer and they will either

1) get long distance bills; or
2) Not be able to connect/navigate etc. Getting multiple errors, symptoms.
3) When the on the Get on the Internet icon the software is clicked the default dialin number, even though the correct number shows up in the connectoid...

GET ON THE INTERNET ICON       1/25/99

From jeff:
Just a reminder to make sure you enter the POP when doing a setup and when
doing a 3.1 setup or troubleshooting a 3.1 setup make sure you delete the
'get on the Internet' icon...this too MUST be noted in the support logs.
The reason we delete this is because if a customer mistakenly clicks on
it, it will replace the regular dialup number with Rochester's, thus LD phone charges WILL be incurred.
* All customers who use our 3.1 software WILL have the 'Get on the Internet' icon deleted by us and logged in supportlogs.

Win 3.1 Setup Procedure:

Once the software has been installed, take the customer to main/file manager/iexplore directory...double-click the iedial.exe icon...

  1. Once the setup wizard has started the first screen will ask for the name of the Service Provider...type the name of the POP the customer dials into locally (this will make it easier for us to determine the default number being used.
  2. Go through the rest of the wizard as normally done.
  3. Once the setup is complete, go into the Microsoft Internet Explorer directory in the program manager and delete the 'Get on the Internet' icon.
  4. Double-click on the connectoid which will be indicated by the POP name, verify that the 'Dialing From' field has the POP name in it...if it says 'Default Location' click the arrow to the right and select the POP name(this will hold true for settings checks also).

If you have any questions about this procedure see me immediately. I will also try to shcedule a training session to go over this.
