Win 95
Win95/98 Annoyances
Some fixes here. http://www.annoyances.org/
Cab Files: How to use them
When a user does not have win 9X cd:
- Use find for files to search names *.cab
- look in: my computer
- check [x]include subdirectories
- Make note of where most of them are located "in folder", usually c:\windows\options\cabs or c:\windows\systems directory.
- Upon reinstalling dun it may ask for files. If it stall at one missing file redirect it to the systems folder or other directory which they are found in.
DUN reinstall:
With our software in win95, if you can not find the correct files on the windows cd and it should be the correct cd, they may have installed our software and it updated the dun to a different version. I reinstall of our software will install dun, but aslso prompts sometimes for the win95 cd.
Prompt for info before dialing
- in dialup networking click connection setting anmd check "prompt for info before dialing"
- the OTHER place where you can set a predial window in Win95- the modem properties panel in DUN is different than that in the control panel. There is a 3rd tab in DUN- where you can set pre and post windows.

TCP/IP
When you go to replace TCP/IP in network you must remove ALL TCP/IP components and then reinstall them, or the TCP will not be refreshed.
All tcp/ip's for dialup should behave independantly of the tcp/ip's for other networking components. If this is not the case it may cactually be the windows install.
terminal window before dialing.
win 98/95-- go into the dialer properties, click on the configure next to the connect with modem, and disabled(unchecked) it on the options tab.
Wizard
To disable the wizard in win 98 or even win 95(with a computer without our
software) you need to click on the internet icon on the desktop at the end
of your sent up. if a wizard launches then you follow the screens. There
are two forms:
Form1:
the only choice on the first screen is next.
The second screen has three choices, select the third one. "I am already set up"
Hit nextForm2:
The first screen has three choices. select the last one. "I already have
an account. do not show this wizard again."
then hit next.Form 3.
IE5 does NOT offer as the bottom choice " I already have a connection - Don't show this wizard again" or words to that effect.
At the very bottom of this version it says "To leave your internet settings unchanged, click cancel". If you select this, a box will pop up with a checkbox "Do not show the Interet Connection Wizard in the future". Be sure the customer don't just click out of this without telling you, like the guy I had did.. check that option, and close the dialog box with the yes button.Form 4:
IE5 ICW like a brick wall. It ran automatically when going into Outlook Express, and clicking "Cancel" to "Keep your existing internet settings" cancels the whole job and DOESNT take you into Outlook Express. Next time i get a machine that might have it, I may try the ICW FIRST, the polish up later.Of course, you need to determine that they have IE5 first, and thats not always easy over the phone either. Maybe if we START with OE, tackle tie Wiz if we get it, otherwise add the new DUN connectiod from within OE? Hmmm...
